Back to Class Bus Tour visits NCC
Over 60 donors and friends of the ICSF attended the Back to Class field trip to North
Cambridge Catholic High School (NCC) to observe first-hand how their support of the ICSF
helps to transform students' lives.
Guests were treated to student-led tours of the school, lunch with students, and a
performance by the school's salsa dance club. President of NCC, Bob McCarthy, welcomed
guests and highlighted some of the recent successes of NCC students, success stories
which would be impossible without the generosity of donors to the ICSF. Mike Reardon,
executive director of the Catholic Schools Foundation, shared that over 5,500 students'
lives were directly impacted by the financial assistance they and their families received
through the generous support of the ICSF.
Tom O'Neill, III, chairman of the NCC Board of Trustees and Mike Champa, a trustee of
the Catholic Schools Foundation commented on the success of the Cristo Rey model at NCC,
since its implementation in 2004. The model incorporates a corporate work study program
into the daily curriculum. Students spend 5 days a month in the office of a corporate
partner, gaining valuable work experience, and earning money towards their tuition.
Currently, NCC boasts relationships with 74 companies and corporations and since 2004,
the school has maintained a 100% college acceptance rate.
The Catholic Schools Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization which
provides tuition assistance and program aid to financially needy students in Catholic
schools in the Greater Boston area. Financial assistance is granted based on need without
regard to race, color, gender or creed. To find out more about the Inner-City Scholarship
Fund or how to become a corporate work study sponsor, please call 617-778-5981.
