Our Counseling Program
Established to help address the emotional needs of children attending inner-city schools,
the Counseling Program serves as an important resource that helps foster the healthy growth
and development of each student. This year, the program served a total of 2,500 students by
providing 10 guidance counselors to 13 elementary schools. In 2008 and 2009, CSF will begin
a new and exciting collaboration with the Lynch School of Education at Boston College, which
will integrate the Catholic school guidance program with the Boston Connects program.
Boston Connects is a nationally recognized school/community/university partnership linking
Boston elementary schools in the Allston, Brighton, and Roxbury areas with community partners,
helping to coordinate school and community support to more than 3,300 children and their
families. Boston Connects is working toward building systemic change within our schools and
surrounding neighborhoods by connecting individual students and families with effective,
in-school student support and well-developed community agency resources. By integrating the
Catholic schools with this model, Boston Connects will help formalize the Counseling Program
and provide much-needed data on its success.
