14th Annual Glimmer Gala benefits St. Patrick School in Roxbury

A premier fundraising event for young Bostonians, proceeds of over $16,000 benefited the Catholic Schools Foundation's Inner-City Scholarship Fund (ICSF), which provides financial assistance to needy students attending Catholic schools in and around Boston. The ICSF, in turn, is allocating these funds to help convert an abandoned lot into a turf athletic surface for students at St. Patrick's School in Roxbury.

Glimmer Gala guests were greeted by students from St. Patrick's in Roxbury and spent the evening bidding on an array of fantastic live and silent auction items, including week-long stays at several luxurious private homes, spa packages at Newbury salons, Boston sports memorabilia, dinners at upscale Boston restaurants and overnight stays at several metro Boston hotels. While perusing the items available for bidding, guests were treated to complimentary wine and beer, hors d'ouevres, door prizes and the music of the band Soul City. One lucky guest, Eric LaPlaca, came away from the evening with four tickets to the State Street Pavilion for the Red Sox vs. the Baltimore Orioles on June 10th by winning the raffle drawing. There was lively bidding during the evening's live and silent auctions on stand out items such as introductory flying lessons and a week-long stay at a private home in Ireland.

As well as a fundraiser, this annual event introduces many guests to the good work done by the Inner-City Scholarship Fund and the volunteer opportunities provided by the Professionals' Team. The Professionals' Team strives to bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace for students attending schools supported by the Inner-City Scholarship Fund. Professionals' Team volunteers hold Saturday tutoring sessions, visit schools and speak to students about their professions through the Speakers Bureau program and bring groups of students to their workplaces on Industry Tours. The members of the Professionals' Team help students see the wealth of options available to them in their futures, and in doing so help to Build Minds and Change Lives.
