HORIZONS FOR HOMELESS CHILDREN
CSF’S PARTNERSHIP PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS TO CHILDREN EXPERIENCING HOUSING INSTABILITY
The Catholic Schools Foundation (CSF) began its partnership with Horizons for Homeless Children (Horizons) in 2015 in order to provide a secure, high-quality, nurturing, and community-based school option for families experiencing housing instability. Through CSF, graduates from Horizon’s early education program receive guaranteed scholarships from pre-k to 8th grade at a Catholic school in Boston and the surrounding areas.
This year, CSF has placed 34 children in seven of the Boston area Catholic schools. In addition to scholarships, these children receive various supplemental supports from CSF, such as extended day care, enrichment and vacation programs, summer camp, and uniforms. Further, each student who attends a City Connects partner school is assigned a guidance counselor through this CSF sponsored program. CSF’s counseling program is based on the City Connects model which understands that poverty has harmful consequences, reducing children’s achievement, academic success and other domains of development, including health, family, and social-emotional outcomes. Through the counseling program, students receive individual one-on-one counseling at schools, supplemental support, and access to community resources when needed.
