Spotlight on Inspiration Scholar: Chelsea from Lawrence Catholic Academy, Inspiration Scholar Class of 2030
The Catholic Schools Foundation (CSF) proudly congratulates Chelsea Rodriguez Ogando of Lawrence Catholic Academy on being named one of the High School Inspiration Scholars for the Class of 2030.
The Inspiration Scholarship is CSF’s most competitive merit- and need-based scholarship program, providing four years of support for outstanding students to attend an area Catholic high school. Scholars are selected not only for their academic excellence, but also for their leadership, service, and strong moral character.
Principal Monica J. Lucey describes Chelsea as “at the top of her class academically. She works hard every day to achieve in the classroom and refuses to settle for anything less than her best. Her desire to do well is only outshined by her positive attitude and the kindness she shows her friends and her teachers.”
Chelsea’s drive extends far beyond the classroom. She’s an avid dancer, dedicating much of her free time to perfecting her craft. She also volunteers regularly at school events — from “Trunk or Treat” to “Cookies and Crafts” — always ready to lend a helping hand.
Her leadership shines through in the quiet, meaningful ways she supports her peers. Whether offering a listening ear or helping a friend through a tough time, Chelsea embodies the compassion and empathy that define true leadership. Her principal shared, “Chelsea is a leader among her peers. She knows when to comfort, when to encourage, and when to seek help for others — she is a leader in every sense of the word.”
Chelsea’s favorite book, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, has been a source of lasting inspiration. She admires how the main character, Brian, overcomes challenges through determination and resourcefulness — lessons she applies in her own life.
“As I enter high school, I’m most looking forward to the opportunities to grow,” Chelsea shared in her application. “I want to challenge myself with harder classes, join new activities, and form friendships that will help shape the person I want to become.”
Balancing academics, extracurriculars, and family responsibilities hasn’t always been easy, but Chelsea approaches it with grace and discipline. “Sometimes it can be hard to do many things at once,” she said, “but once you start to become more organized, everything becomes easier.”
Looking Ahead to High School
Chelsea dreams of becoming a pediatrician, a goal that perfectly reflects her caring spirit. “I have always helped people in need,” she explained. “Being a doctor means treating and helping people more. I want to keep trying and never give up.”
Her dream extends beyond her career — she envisions bringing her family along with her on that journey, recognizing their constant support as part of her success.
The Catholic Schools Foundation is honored to support students like Chelsea, whose kindness, leadership, and perseverance embody what it means to be an Inspiration Scholar. Congratulations, Chelsea — we can’t wait to see all that you will accomplish in high school and beyond!
