Spotlight on Inspiration Scholar: Nesta

November 5th, 2025

Spotlight on Inspiration Scholar: Nesta from Cheverus Catholic School, Inspiration Scholars for the Class of 2030.

The Catholic Schools Foundation (CSF) proudly congratulates Nesta of Cheverus Catholic School in Malden on being named one of the High School Inspiration Scholars for the Class of 2030.

The Inspiration Scholarship is CSF’s most competitive merit- and need-based scholarship program, providing four years of support for exceptional students to attend an area Catholic high school. Scholars are selected for their academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to serving their communities.

When Nesta arrived in Malden from Kenya, it didn’t take long for his kind heart, bright spirit, and strong work ethic to make an impression on the Cheverus Catholic School community. Known for being kind, respectful, and adaptable, Nesta has quickly become a beloved student and friend to many.

Academically, Nesta’s teachers describe him as deeply motivated and curious—someone who not only strives for excellence but also lifts up those around him. “He exhibits an amazing academic curiosity and takes his studies very seriously,” shared Principal Jeff Lane. “It’s incredible to see how seamlessly he has adjusted and excelled since moving here from another continent.”

Outside the classroom, Nesta’s talents shine just as brightly. His passion for soccer has helped him build friendships and confidence, both on and off the field. He plays in the city of Malden league and is often touted as one of the best players in his class. Not one to limit himself to a single interest, Nesta also sings in the school choir, sharing his voice during school Masses and prayer services. Always eager to learn something new, he’s also looking forward to joining the school’s upcoming chess club.

Nesta has already shown a gift for leadership. When he and his classmates dreamed of starting a soccer club at school, Nesta took the lead, developing a plan, presenting it to school leaders, and working to overcome challenges like finding a practice space.

Faith plays an especially meaningful role in Nesta’s journey. He shares that one of his proudest accomplishments is accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior, a decision that transformed his life. “When I came to Cheverus, I started to take God seriously because of my religion teacher, Mrs. Buffy,” he reflected. “She made me realize that even if we know Jesus, do we really do what he asks us to do? Since that day, I wanted to seek Jesus more. Jesus has now become the center of my life, and I’m very proud to follow Him.”

Looking to the Future

Nesta dreams of pursuing a career in business and entrepreneurship, starting with sales and eventually building his own clothing brand. His strong faith, determination, and kindness will no doubt guide him as he works toward his goals.

Nesta’s teachers describe him as a joy to have in class and a true role model among his peers. “He is motivated, respectful, and always willing to help others,” one teacher shared. “Nesta deserves this recognition for his dedication to learning, his leadership, and his heart for service.”

With his unwavering faith, compassion, and drive, Nesta embodies the very spirit of the Catholic Schools Foundation’s Inspiration Scholars students, who not only achieve excellence but inspire others through the way they live their faith and values each day.

Congratulations, Nesta — we can’t wait to see all that you will accomplish in high school and beyond!
